With filial joy, St. Joseph Oratory hosted His Grace, Archbishop Allen H. Vigneron of Detroit, for the Confirmation of young people on October 22, 2017. Assisting Archbishop Vigneron in the beautiful Pontifical ceremony of Confirmation in the Extraordinary Form were Canon Michael Stein, Pastor; Canon Jonathon Fehrenbacher, Vicar; Abbé Alex Barga, Master of Ceremonies; brothers of St. Thomas Aquinas House; and numerous altar servers of the Oratory. His Grace delivered sermons to the confirmandi and their sponsors, encouraging them as follows: “With Confirmation you are now equipped with God’s grace to go out into the part of the world He’s entrusted to your care and to sanctify it as you grow in holiness too."

As Archbishop Vigneron conferred the sacrament of Confirmation on each young person, the St. Joseph Cappella sang O Quam Gloriosum by Tomás Luis de Victoria, with its magnificent text based on Revelation 7:9: "O, how glorious is the kingdom, in which all the saints rejoice with Christ! Arrayed in white robes, they follow the Lamb, wherever He goes." Now sealed with the Holy Ghost, may these ten confirmandi increase in holiness and always follow Christ.

The Solemn High Mass after the Rite of Confirmation was offered by Canon Stein. During the reception in the social hall, the faithful congratulated the newly confirmed and their families, and enjoyed refreshments together. The Canons and the faithful of St. Joseph Oratory are most grateful for the Archbishop's second pastoral visit, especially as the previous week marked the one year anniversary of the Institute's First Mass at St. Joseph Oratory and the launch of the Historic Renewal capital campaign on October 16.
