The Society of the Sacred Heart held its annual retreat at University of St. Mary of the Lake Conference Center in Mundelein, Illinois, on June 8-10, 2018.

Pilgrim members of the Society from across the United States met for enriching spiritual conferences presented by Very Rev. Msgr. Giles Wach, Prior General of the Institute and Canon Aaron Huberfeld, Chaplain of the Society.  Canon Matthew Talarico, Provincial of the United States, assisted Msgr. Wach with translations. Miss Katherine Weir, founding member of the Society, gave an enlightening talk on the history of the Society.  Dr. James Sutherland, National Governor of the Society also gave an edifying presentation on the English martyrs.  Three members of the Sisters Adorers of the Royal Heart joined the retreatants, offering a presentation on their lives within the Institute and enhancing the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass with their beautiful chant.  Abbe Raymond Schmidt assisted the Canons throughout the weekend.

Society members also participated in Solemn Mass for the Feast of the Sacred Heart on Friday, Solemn Votive Mass of the Immaculate Heart of Mary on Saturday, and Solemn High Mass for the Third Sunday after Pentecost in the beautiful seminary chapel, as well as a Holy Hour of Adoration, Confessions, and Holy Rosary.

Thirteen new members received the Cross of St. Francis de Sales from Msgr. Wach in a solemn Saturday evening ceremony, which included the renewal of Society membership commitment by all the members.

Society members enjoyed much camaraderie with each other throughout the weekend, renewing friendships and welcoming new members, as well as encouraging each other spiritually.  It was a rare and special pleasure to spend the retreat weekend with members of all four branches of the Institute family: Canons, Oblates, Sisters and lay Society members.

The next Society of the Sacred Heart annual retreat will be held June 7-9, 2019 in Mundelein, Illinois.
